Bringing the Golden Age of Filmmaking
Back to Soho

Soho Film Festival is a biannual, feature-focused festival taking place each May and October, dedicated to original filmmaking that honours the great traditions of British and international cinema.

We celebrate everything that made British films of the 1940s through the 1970s win their audience and become classics: strong writing, character-led storytelling, wit and humour, restraint, moral complexity, and an unmistakable sense of place, culture, and traditions — in other words, British identity.

At the same time, we celebrate the great many continental foreign influences for which Soho has always been known.

Our programme favours films that are confident in craft, clear in vision, and unafraid to let story and performance lead.

While rooted in tradition, Soho Film Festival is not exclusively nostalgic. We actively seek original contemporary films that reinterpret classic cinematic values for modern audiences — works that feel timeless rather than trendy.

We accept feature-length films (45 minutes to under 2 hours and 30 minutes) in the following genres only: Comedy, Drama, Romance, Thriller and Fantasy / Sci-Fi.

Soho Film Festival is deliberately curated and selective. Every submission is viewed in full and assessed on storytelling, performance, direction, and overall artistic integrity.

Each edition presents a focused selection of films, awards juried prizes, and private screenings.

Our audience consists of filmmakers, actors, journalists, and many Soho locals who are in love with film!

Our screenings take place at one of the independent cinemas in London.
